Hello,

I have the opportunity to buy a Yamaha SE clarinet for $1375. The dealer
told me the instrument has been used as a "demo". I have tried it shortly
and it looks good. I did not test the instrument seriously yet, but the
dealer is willing to lend it to me for a few days. Compared to my Buffet
E-13 the response is more evenly. The sound is definitely not "buffet-like",
but I think it is more "stable". The intonation seems very good, but I did
not control it with a tuner, yet. Of course these are my personal opinions,
and not a judgement of Buffet versus Yamaha. I did play it with my own
mouthpieces, a Vandoren V360 and B45.

Is $1375 a good price for this instrument (approx. 2 years old)? Should I
check the history of the instrument with Yamaha?

Thanks for your help,

Johan Thole

P.S. I am not a professional clarinettist, but I think a professional
instrument is also a good investment for an advanced amateur. Of course this
is my highly personal opinion.
