Re: Low C Bass clarinet fingerings/exercises, per TBMcMnanus
TB: I worked with the Weissenborn bassoon studies, which are great if you
can read tenor and bass clef. The mozart bassoon concerto will take you all
over the bass clarinet including down to low C. You can also use many
clarinet studies and transpose them down an octave to work in your two
lowest registers. In the 4th register from C to F you can often utilize
harmonics on the throat tones, with or without the long register key, but
without the left hand thumb. On my Selmer S33 bass these are better in
tune, better sounding notes than regular 4th register fingerings, and I can
move around with much greater agility because the left hand thumb isn't in
play.
