I actually know two people who studied with Anthony Gigliotti's father: my current teacher and a linguistics professor at Brandeis University. They describe him as a typical European aristocrat, very 19th Century! It didn't matter to him whether you were going into music or not, he expected the same amount of committment from all his students. This can be seen from the very similar accounts of both of their experiences with the elder Gigliotti. I believe he played with the opera and the ballet company in Philly. One of them told me that he had the most gorgeous tone, a lot like Bonade's. When I had a lesson with Gigliotti, he began to speak about his father and I mentioned that I know two of his father's former students and he remembered both of them. That just confirmed the rumors I heard about him having a phenomenal memory.
