I used a patch for a while.
Although I could hear a big difference, listeners could not.
The patch may influence the sound being transmitted
into the jaw through the teeth, thus changing our perception of the
sound.
But; if our perception changes, but our concept of what sound
should be remains unchanged, perhaps we attempt to compensate
for what we hear;. i.e.: If the patch mutes high frequencies to our
ear, and our concept is the same, perhaps we would then adjust to
produce a brighter sound, adjusting for what we hear. Therefore by
default our sound changes, not directly because of the patch, but
indirectly by compensating for the altered perspective.
