I'm curious. Why can you not perceive "breathe-from-the-diaphram"? You
may not be able to see the actual diaphragmatic muscle move, but you can
certainly see/feel the results on the other physical structures around it.

As for posture being taught, it was something that was pounded at me (since
I'm a lazy sitter, and always have been) and I did the same for my
students. IMO, if you are breathing diaphragmatically, whether sitting or
standing, your posture must be correct. You can't slouch and expand the
diaphragm at the same time.
