If you believe this, I doubt that you've seen Horowitz play. He's as anti-showmanship as they come. No facial expressions, very economical movements, but boy did he play the shit out of the piano! The music was so internalized that he didn't need any other external impetus to carry him along. Some people do and that's not a value judgement. He's not an exception. Look at conductors such as Reiner, Strauss, and Mravinsky - They were very economical yet they always drew extremely inspired and exciting performances. It's just a reflection of the performer. Whatever works for you is the adage stated by many others who have commented on this thread.
