No, I never performed at Ravinia, but I have fond memories of meeting
Larry and spending a delightful evening with him in Chicago. I was
playing the Mozart concerto on a reconstructed period instrument with
the Academy of Ancient Music there in the late 80s.

I also remember Chris Hogwood giving an seminar at the University,
talking about Mozart style and having the AAM players give examples, to
a rather suspicious and at times hostile audience. Chris always seemed
to have a gentle and erudite answer to every objection, though. It was
an impressive display.

There was a young clarinet player there who was acting as an extra
guinea-pig for Chris's remarks about the Mozart clarinet concerto (I
was guinea-pig number one, and certainly felt like it;-) who did rather
well. I believe he was a student of Marcellus's, and we were rather
hoping that the great man himself would show up.

But we were assured that wasn't likely.
