No, nor had I till I started reading this list, John. And I think I'm
not quite unexperienced in the business of playing the clarinet, or
particularly isolated from the profession.

I knew one or two wind players who always preferred to sit: Bernard
Walton, on clarinet, who liked to cross his legs and rest the bell of
the instrument on the upper knee as well; and Janet Craxton, on oboe,
with whom I played for many years.

But they never said that it was *better*, in general.
