From: "Dan Leeson: LEESON@-----.edu>
Subj: [kl] Koechel's number
Date: Wed, 2 Jun 1999 01:14:50 -0400

>From a contemporary point of view: Pennsylvania 6, five oh oh oh.

Alternatively, from a religious point of view: 666 (the actual
number of works Mozart wrote including all tenor sax concerti
which are not well known).

>From a mathematical point of view: it is the sum of the first
626 prime numbers.

And from the point of view of someone who asked me with a
straight face: is the Koechel number the number of pages in
the piece? And I ran to my shelf, got Don Giovanni off (which
by wild accident has 527 pages) and said, "OF COURSE."

>From an experimental physics point of view, it is the number
of days in a 50,000,000 light years to learn how to find a good
reed.

Or it could be as simple as the FBI saying, "OK, Koechel. We've
got your number. Are you going to confess?"

Or perhaps Shakespearean: Oh Koechel, deny thy name. What's
in a name? A Koechel listing by any other name would be as
incomprehensible.

Alternative Shakespearean: My kingdom for a Koechel listing!

Second alternative Shakespearean: Hath not a Koechel listing
eyes, organs, dimensions? Study one. Does it not bleed?

Medieval astronomy: The clarinet player does not go round the
Koechel listing. It is the other way around. The clarinet
player is the center of the universe and all things go around
him (unless his instrument is blown out in which case the
universe will crash)

The pedant: I tell you that 622 is a prime number and if you
don't like it, stick it high up where it is red.
