I can echo this statement. I was recently able to buy an old Wells mouthpiece
from a repair tech friend of mine. The mouthpiece was beat up, and the facing
chipped, but when I tried it I could produce a very centered sound. With
nothing to loose except money, I bought the mouthpiece, and took it home and
refaced it.

It is now my favorite mouthpiece. Since I have put the same facing on several
different blanks, I can only guess that the blank itself is superior to those
I have been working with.
