I have had the great pleasure of playing professionally on Frank Kaspar
clarinet and bass clarinet mouthpieces for many years. As one person stated
the other day, I am one of the "older people" who enjoy these great
mouthpieces. I do feel that the material of the blanks does contribute to the
beautiful quality of sound they produce. I also have played some with
original Kaspar facings( still own two) and others that have been refaced by
fine craftsman. Both examples that I currently play on, one with an original
facing, one beautifully re-faced by Chris Hill, produce unique tone qualities
that I have had a difficult time matching with modern mouthpieces. Mouthpiece
choices are of course extremely personal and vary greatly depending on a
clarinetist's physical makeup, training, and ear for personal sound. I just
wanted to say to many who wonder why Kaspar mouthpieces sell for such a high
dollar on e-bay, that these mouthpieces in my opinion are worth much more
that what they actually sell for!
