For example the Left hand E tone hole (under the ring key pad) is half the
size of the Fork Bb tone hole just below it. The fact that the Bb hole is

Hans Moennig always struggled with the wide left hand 12th of the E
To high B. During the 1930s Ralph McLane brought Mr. Moennig a Student
model
"Robert" Clarinet. The horn was badly out of tune except for one interval
the
E to B 12th. Those two notes were perfectly in tune with each other.
Bewildered by this instrument, Mr. Moennig filled the hole with Dental
impression material and made a casting of the "Well Tempered" tone hole.
This
is how they compared.

Mr. Moennig used this tone hole design until his retirement, as it
worked quite well. He also modified the F to High C hole to improve the
wide
12ths. This technique was slightly different due to the raised chimney.

John - I posted a solution on sketch 1 to Loh Tzu Liang - a call to supper
made me abbreviate Sketch 2 - let me try set it out below.
Grid 6 columns x 6 high.
Top row : I I I I
Row 2 : I I I I
Row 3 : I I I I I I
Row 4 : I I I / I
Row 5 : I I I / I
Row 6 : I / / I - was
correctly transmitted.
In this sketch there are three rows of horizontal lines. The two short ones
close the top of the chimneys.
The next row of three longer lines show the outside line of the body on top
of row 3 while the three lower lines are the inside edge of the bore under
row 6.
As I posted to Loh, when correctly positioned the lower "^" and "I" are
arrows to indicate that the left hand hole is Buffet R13 and the right hand
hole is Moennig Buffet.
