Ahhhh......I better understand Mark's post now.

Mark, the 1.08 tip opening is a much closer facing and subsequent curve
than the cousin with the 1.13 tip. The M13 would play slightly more
resistant than the M08 (all things being equal, which they never are!).
Undoubtedly, the M08 also has a shorter curve - this can cause resistance
in the low register - and stuffiness unless efforts are made to the baffle,
window, and sometimes the bore. Tip rail and side rail thickness also
affect resistance and "dark" "bright" sounds (depending on what you
actually mean by those terms).

Don't know how to answer the second question.
