I would try the Luyben. As I posted a couple of days ago, I like it better
than the others you mention (and quite a number you didn't)--all I which I
own. The biggest benefit to the Luyben, aside for the fact that (for me) it
simply works better, is that it is cheap. You can get it for less than ten
bucks.

If you want more focus/center to the tone, go with the Bonade. Works great,
fifteen bucks. If you need a name dropped to think it has merit (aside from
Bonade's of course), I think that Larry Combs uses one.

Clarinet playing is like fishing. If you fish, sooner or later you will own
every lure ever made. (Some of them even catch fish!) I have found that
the trail from student to duffer is less painful if you spend less money at
first, so I'd spare myself the fifty/eighty/whatever bucks that they want
for the Optimum and go for the less expensive alternative.

I have always used a standard metal ligature, but am considering trying
diffeerent types. I would like to know what is recommended - I know cloth
ligatures, ?Rovner, have a good reputation. What about the Optimum
ligature from Vandoren. I would appreciate any suggestions.
