No, Roger. Not at all. A number of assertions were made to the
effect that the phenomenon of blow out affects all horns, though
to different degrees. One statement was made that Drucker automatically
gets a new instrument every 10 years to avoid the problem; i.e., Stanley
does not even wait to see if the problem arises, he is so sure that it
will. Since Stanley is 70 and he was a brilliant clarinetist at
15, we are talking about him working on his 6th A and 6th B-flat
instrument.

The general view of those who accept the phenomenon without reservation
is that it will happen and there isn't much you can do about it except
follow Drucker's action and get a new one every xx years, where xx varies
as a function of one's pocketbook, gullibility, and willingness to accept
technologically unsupport assertions as if there were no question
about their accuracy. I thought Ed Lacy's comments particularly
illuminating in respect to this very issue. He described a physical
change to instruments that was inevitable and absolute. But perhaps
I should let Ed speak for himself.
