Nope, didn't use any varnish. Th repair technician used a glue type
compound to join together the grenadilla wood. Then he **sparingly** used a
special ebony marker to match the ebony-colored grenadilla wood exactly;
this being a day or so later allowing the wood/compound mixture to
thoroughly dry.

The ebony marker was no doubt akin to something like the furniture scuff
removers that are used today. Used sparingly by somebody with a decent
touch, they work quite well.
