Bill is right. We had a (used) thumbrest put on my daughter's Buffet E-11.
Cost was approx. $25 . No one knows why and when Buffet starting using the
"ugly black ones". Also, the same music store received a number of E-11's
with adjustable thumbrests. BTW: the "used thumbrests" were actually brand
new ones which had been pulled off E-11's in favor of adjustable thumbrests!
This whole thing comes full circle!

This same repair shop did something "inventive", at least I thought so.
They have ground up Grenadilla wood into very "fine dust". Utilizing this
ground grenadilla wood they plugged the holes left by the "ugly black"
thumbrest's holes.

No problem. Looks VERY nice. FWIW, it isn't easy to identify where the old
holes were and I have a hard time seeing any damage done to the value of the
E-11, as a result of this work.

I am starting to wonder whether or not Buffet is using "just-in-time
Inventory quantity ordering" in the manufacture of various parts of their
lines, say the B and E Series. This would allow for lower carrying costs for
raw/finished materials used in their manufacturing process and would further
explain the substitution of different parts from time to time. Interesting.
Of course, there is also the situation where there is poor control over
production parts in inventory and a manufacturer just flat runs out of "on
hand" quantities. When I get to Paris I'll ask ! <grin>

>>How about finding a new repairman? A standard thumbrest for a Leblanc or
Selmer product runs under $5.00 retail. Buffets shouldn't be much
different. If it uses the same screw holes as the plastic one, it is a two
minute job to replace. On the other hand, if the B-12 plastic thumbrest
uses DIFFERENT hole spacing, the extra effort and extra holes caused by
re-drilling may justify BOTH his price and caution about value.>>
