In Toledo we used a reduced instrumentation arrangement of the Nutcracker
Ballet so that we could fit in the pit. The arrangement did away with bass
clarinet (sacrilege!!!!), one or two flutes, english horn, probably some
brass. Despite some worrisome compromises, the overall effect was still
pretty good.

I seem to remember that the Toledo Symphony owned the music, You might want
to contact the music librarian. Sorry, I have no idea who that might be at
this time.
