I played a reduced orchestra version of the Nutcracker with the
Greensboro (NC) Symphony in 1986 or '87. Mostly wind parts were cut:
no third flute, bass clarinet (!), only two horns. A synthesizer was
used to fill in some parts such as the harp. This version was very
taxing for the brass. Perhaps the Greensboro Symphony has a record of
who made the arrangement.
