Mark,
If the opportunity arrises, your son should try a Clark Fobes barrel on
his Festival. I had a chance to try a Festival Bb last summer and I liked
it very much. However, I thought it was even better with the Fobes barrel
I have for my R-13.

Kevin asks IRT brass barrels from Yamaha:
>So I have to ask--do they sound good?

They suited my Selmer nicely when it was set for a slight reverse taper,
not
as nicely when reversed to a slight cone. The endpieces unscrew so you can

reverse the middle piece.

On my son's Festival they sounded "OK"; my son's Bb has an old Leblanc
barrel
on it right now that just suits it perfectly, and he hasn't found any
other
barrel that works quite as well.

>how much weight training do you have to do prior to using one?

There's two models - thin wall and thick wall.I didn't notice any real
weight
difference between a thin wall & a regular barrel _when playing_, but a
noticable
difference in weight using a thick wall. I couldn't really hear much if
any difference
in sound between the thick & thin wall.
