I use the Galper register vent/key on my early 1990's Buffet R13 clarinet.
You can read my enthusiatic comments on my Website. Go to
www.clarinetdoc.com, click on the ACCESSORIES link, and then click on the
photograph of the Galper invention.
My enthusiasm is undiminished. Here's why...
Being a tinkerer, I tried another setup for about 6 weeks. When I came back
to the Galper system, it was like putting on comfy shoes again.
The other setup I used was the "common pin in the register key cork" method.
I'm not sure if the invention has a proper name but I read about it in an
earlier issue of The Clarinet. I have to say that it worked great initially,
smoothing the break for me. It also improved the throat Bb, but not as much
as Abe's invention. The main problem with the common pin device is that, over
time, the pin began to wobble, causing a distortion in my clarinet's tone.
When I removed the register key, I noticed how the pin had more freedom of
movement after several weeks' use than it did initially. In any case, I
abandoned the common pin setup, relegating it to my memory bank of
"interesting" ideas and things to try perhaps another time.
Meanwhile, I have tested the Galper vent/key on a couple of Buffet Evette
Master Model clarinets. The setup fits and it DOES offer similar improvements
to what I found on my R13.
