Subj: [kl] Neckstrap on a newer B12
Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 06:52:37 -0400

A student of mine would benefit from a neckstrap. She has a newer (less
than 2 years old) Buffet B12. It has that scooped plastic thumbrest. I
use a Claricord. That can't attach over this monster thumbrest. I
suggested getting a repairman to replace it with a "normal" thumbrest
and buying the neckstrap, thinking the whole deal would be less than
$20. The repairman told her it would cost *$40* just to replace the
thumbrest! And he didn't recommend it, b/c is would "lower the value of
the instrument." He sure got the parents on that one! (I tried to
explain to the parent that it would increase the value of the clarinet
to the student!)

My next thought was to drill a hole through the thumbrest. It is a
thick plastic. And then use a neckstrap with a hook. We haven't tried
it yet. (I assumed that to put another of the same thumbrest on if we
broke it would not cost too much.)

Any ideas?
