<<<Did/do any of you on the list go to a grade/junior high/high school where
there was/is a requirement that you have a professional clarinet? Can
anyone on the list, from personal observation (not heresay) document the
existence of a school district with such a requirement? Maybe I'm wrong
about this but, if so, I would like to see some evidence.>>>

There is a band director here in the Seattle area that does something like
that. If you want to play in the "top" band at his high school, you must
play a Buffet R-13 with a Vandoren B-45 mouthpiece. Period.

It's a shame that Ricardo Morales, Larry Combs, Elsa Ludwig, Eddie Daniels,
Tony Giggliotti et. al. would not be good enough for his wind ensemble.
