Subj: [kl] register key height and throat Bb
Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 10:59:44 -0400

I have a (relatively) new Selmer Recital clarinet with a very poor throat =
Bb. I realize mouthpiece/reed variables have the greatest impact in this =
area, but I read last evening (in Tom R.'s comprehensive book of clarinet =
fingerings) that the register key should not move too far away from the =
tone hole (at least, that's what I understood). I had figured as long as a =
pad cleared a tone hole, the remaining distance, whatever it was, was not =
significant to the production of the tone.
