I found that the tone quality was excellent using the V-12 3.5 reed, but the
response was poor especially for staccato, it would sqeak or that thudding,
hollow sound would occur. I tried the "plain old dime-store metal ligature",
as you said, too. The response was still not up to my liking. I also tried
Mitchell- Lurie 3.5 and the response was better, but the tone was not as rich
as the Vandoren, but it was still better than the Yamaha mouthpiece I was
using, except for the altissimo notes which were extremely shrill. I've also
tried several Vandoren mouthpieces, but I like the tone that the Marcellus
gives me a lot better, and I would love to keep that mouthpiece, providing I
can fix the response problem. Thank you for your advice though, I appreciate
it.
