This tonguing technique is from Bonade. My current teacher told me an interesting story, even though he admits that he doesn't know if it's true or not. Bonade was playing with the San Francisco Opera(I think). An accomplished basoonist screwed up a fast articulated passage and was subsequently fired. This scared Bonade, so he tried to think of a way so that this would never be an issue. And he came up with this technique. This story sounds too fake to the two of us
but it's intriguing enough.
Several teachers have taught it to me and they all attribute Bonade and make a conscious point in doing so. The best studies seems to be exercise 5 from part 2 of the Klose book and some of the early Rose studies(out of 40).
