If the Buffet R-13 actually WERE the Holy Grail of clarinets, I would have
no problem. It is only the ASSERTION that it is, despite considerable
evidence to the contrary, that bothers me. It is most certainly AMONG the
top ones, but is it so much more deserving of consideration than any other,
despite the flaws that are repeatedly discussed in this forum? Rather than
displaying MY prejudice, I am attempting to expose YOURS.

I resent your implication. Besides, nothing I say on this list is going to
affect the sales in our little local operation one tiny bit. I offered
here only my anecdotal evidence about the quality control matters I have
been discussing. The reason for dropping the line was purely economic --
we could not make money with them when, due to volume discounts, mail order
prices were lower than our wholesale cost. I'd rather have them in stock
myself! We don't carry Leblanc, either, for the same reason.
