Pardon me while I jump into the middle of this thread.

If we assume that the phenomenon of "blowout" is real, it seems that
the only way we can determine what causes it is pure scientific study.
It would have to been done through a long period of time, while
considering a multitude of factors, such as:

1. Climate: Does the occur more in dry climates or humid climates
2. Care of the Instrument: Does this occur on instruments that are oiled
regularly or on ones merely swabbed out after every use.
3. Are there measurable differences in the bore that would attribute to this.
4. What about the player. Is there something in the saliva that interacts
with wood that would cause this.

A Scientist would come up with a 100 other considerations before coming to a conclusion.

The only thing I think that we can conclude is that some people think "blowout" has occurred
on their instrument. If that is the case than the only solution is a new instrument. They can
donate the old instrument to a research department.

What I have said has already been said in many different ways already but I wanted to
insert my 2 cents.
