Yup. That's my point. The car works, but not to my satisfaction. I buy a
different model.

I personally do not think that clarinets from the manufacturers are
anywhere near as bad as you make them out to be. The "deficiencies"
quoted hereabout are most probably true; however, for the average
person, they're not all that overwhelming. For the professional (the
"race driver", not the shade tree mechanic), the clarinets are not near
what they could be and can benefit immensely from hand-tuning. Your
car's engine and transmission could benefit the same way from
"blueprinting"; it's a common thing done to cars by aficionados. They
take the car apart (even a brand new one) and make sure all the parts
are to spec. The horsepower gain on an average car just by making sure
the parts are within the correct tolerances is amazing.

Clarinets _aren't_ all that different.
