Sure. But how many cars do you suppose GM would sell if every one had to
be taken to a mechanic right after it was driven off the lot to have the
engine rebuilt? We are not talking customization here. That would be
adding extra keys, gold plating, etc., to suit that individual's particular
preferences. I am talking about requiring additional work simply to make
the instrument function as it is supposed to. When you buy a car, you
expect the engine, transmission, brakes, and steering to work as
advertised. When you buy a clarinet, I would ASSUME that you would expect
it to at least play properly, if not wonderfully, or you would chose a
different one. Why buy a Brand X clarinet and have it fixed up to work,
when you could buy a Brand Z that plays well right out of the case? If the
Brand X is still so much better (after being fixed), why does the
manufacturer not put in the effort to correct it himself? Then there would
be no question about its superiority, and we would not need to have these
discussions. And if there is no brand Z that plays correctly out of the
case, then shame on THEM, too!
