And isn't that a telling point? Cost of a top of the line clarinet (as
has been mentioned before - many times on this list) is very inexpensive
compared to the cost of other instruments. A brand new mid-line cello
costs $20,000 minimum.

I just don't think it is unreasonable that clarinet makers let the
consumer decide how much customization to do to an instrument to allow it
to meet their needs - they actually pass those savings to us. Better to
do it later than undo something (if it is undoable) and redo it in a
different way to meet a different need.
