Many of my students arrive at IWU with brand new Buffet clarinets - and
they have had no work done to them. They often play just beautifully. I
think your choice of words - "customization" is appropriate. When you
puchase a new, top of the line instrument, your individual needs are very
specific - and no manufacturer can be held accountable for those kinds of
needs. Much as a racing car must be customized to each racer by a
competent mechanic who knows the racer, the people who build the cars are
not negligent for building the car in the first place and letting it be
customized later.

Improving an already terrific clarinet is not an indication that the
manufacturers are not doing their job.
