As a young lad, not having an A clarinet, I used to play some of the
Mozart last movement on my Bb along with Reginald Kell's 78 rpm record
on our family radiogram. It had an adjustable speed, and I just set it
so that it would be in tune.
Not really appreciating what I'd done, I had quite an argument with my
teacher about whether the piece was for Bb or A clarinet. "Well,
Reginald Kell plays it on the Bb," I said. "I know, because I can play
along with the record!"
(It must have been a bit fast, of course:-)

... Procrastination means never having to say you're sorry.

I would say that most of us (99%) have at one time early in our Clarinet
playing history have pulled out the Mouthpiece, Barrel, Center Joint, and Bell
almost to the point of "falling apart", and tried to play The Mozart Concerto
on Bb with an A recording. I know I did ;) It almost works...
