The funny thing is that when I meet English wind players(non clarinettist)
and when the subject turns to clarinet tone of English and American players
most of them says the American clarinet sounds funny to their ears ;-)

different tone that most Americans can't seem to get used to. There are a
few I'm able to tolerate: Jack Brymer, Andrew Marriner, and whoever the
current 1st chair for the Philharmonia O is. I guess it's just taste. On
the other hand, I find that British clarinet players are very passionate and
inspiring. My teacher put it best when he said that he listens to them who
despite their tone, are excellent clarinetists nonetheless.
