Jerry - I've had good luck with the "Tune-A-Day" method. You don't say if
you're talking about private instruction or group/school lessons, but
I've used it with both. Of course, only with like instruments - otherwise
you need some sort of band method. But as a lesson book for beginners, it
works well - logical progression of skills, both mechanical and musical,
and a long time in the low register. Teaches the clarion register by
adding the register key to low notes, in a very well thought out way.
Only then does it practice "over the break". Check it out.
