I am a band director so I have many beginners in one class but a good
beginner book that works in my classes in the Standard of Excellence
books there are three of them in the series. The students seem to enjoy
them and they are very easy to understand. They do not include solo
works thought you would have to look other places for that.

Subject: [kl] Methods for Beginners

I've not taught beginners for a few years and would be interested in
recommendations for beginning method and solo books that can motivate
the
average 9 year old. Books that emphasize the low register for quite a
while
and are careful in how "crossing the break" is introduced would be very
useful. I've used the Rubank methods before and they have many
strengths.
They seem rather dated now and do seem to excite the 9 year olds of the
90s.
The Collis method books work well for many students, but the first
volume
moves very quickly into the upper register and does not provide much
practice for the A-B bridge.
