Subj: [kl] Selmer "F. Barbieri" Model
Date: Wed, 12 May 1999 12:05:04 -0400

Something else just stuck me as I mailed that last message and noticed the
header. You're asking about an "F. Barbieri" model. I assumed "Barbieri"
was a typo or a misreading for "Barbier." Is it? Or are we talking about
two different things? I ask because my Barbier has no initial "F." in the
model name and the 1932 Selmer catalogue also doesn't refer to any "F.
Barbier." It's just "Barbier." Maybe models from different years have
slightly different names, and/or maybe the difference in names indicates a
difference in quality, too. I'm thinking again of Selmer's history of
recycling old model names for use on lower quality instruments. Someone else
on this list e-mailed me after I said something about the Barbier here a few
days ago. He'd been offered a Barbier by a dealer who called it a top
professional model. Maybe the dealer didn't really know -- or maybe there's
more than one quality of Barbier.

Lelia
