I have used Lime for a couple of versions now. I'm impressed with the
increased quality seen in each subsequent version. Since I don't have
a decent MIDI hookup to my computer, I use the mouse/keyboard note
entry method. While this does work pretty well, I can imagine that
MIDI imput would work _much_ better. I love the output that Lime
produces. It took a little bit of time to figure out how to do some
"tricks" in Lime - such as the many gliss., dips, and falloffs seen
in my jazz notation (and I still can't get these notations to "play"
on my sound card - Lime just doesn't support these features yet).
I do have a few beefs with Lime:
- I wish it easily supported different music fonts (such as a jazz font).
- I'm constantly irritated by its single page display. I'd like to see
the flow of music from one page to another or see a global view from
which I can pick a page for closer view.
- It seems slow on my aging 100 MHz Pentium.
- I think some of the text entry features could be made easier to use
(it does pretty well with lyrics, though).
Overall, though, Lime has served me well enough to avoid paying big
bucks for Finale.
