Principal Oboe

The Great Falls Symphony Association is currently accepting applications
for a principal oboe position for the 1999-2000 season. Successful
musician will have the opportunity to perform locally and throughout the
state as a member of the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra and its resident
ensemble, the Chinook Winds, plus maintain a private teaching studio.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Symphony Orchestra
all rehearsals of the Great Falls Symphony. (Orchestra rehearses
weekly)
perform a minimum of six orchestral concerts annually.
2. Chinook Winds
all rehearsals of the Chinook Winds Woodwind Quintet. (Average of
three hours weekly)
additional per-service opportunities:
two chamber performances on a six concert series.
school programs and other private and public performances.
tours which are scheduled by the Great Falls Symphony Ensembles
Manager.
3. Private Teaching
establish a private teaching studio. Individual determines fees and
receives all income from private instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
graduate degree in performance preferred.
professional level orchestral and chamber music experience.
private teaching background desired.
AUDITIONS: Final candidates will be asked to play a live audition in
Great Falls.
COMPENSATION: Salary $7,800. Responsibility to the Association is
limited to the nine-month period between September 1 and May 31.
Additional income may be derived from:
a private studio.
commission from Chinook Winds bookings. (e.g., 1998-1999 commissions
were approximately $1000)
adjunct musician with other Montana orchestras.
instrument repair for a qualified person.
APPLICATION: Send a full resume and audio cassette tape which includes
a movement from a standard sonata or concerto and three orchestral
excerpts of the applicant's choice. A taped example of the applicant's
participation in a chamber ensemble would be welcome if available.

That was the oboe announcement. With the private teaching, the salary I would
think would easily double, or more.
