When I was in the Toledo Symphony, I repeatedly played bass, eb, Bb, and A,
sometimes all in the same concert.

To keep from going nuts, I had a set of mouthpieces made by a prominent
mouthpiece maker, with the instruction of keeping the type of facing and "the
bite" similar. This helped the consistency of my playing, and made switches
much easier.

It also introduced a "unity of sound" that I was very comfortable with.

I did not try to minimize the differences in timbre, but I did try for a
rich, full resonant sound on ALL my clarinets.
