Coolio... :)

DNC, unfortunately, is DNC. After learning how to march in junior high, and
then learning how to march again in high school thanks to some prior service
police officers that "volunteered" to come in and teach the somewhat
mediocre band that I had transferred into how to march, I found that doing
DNC is most definitely a skills and concentration builder. But beyond the
basics of standing at attention, marking time, and stepping off with your
left foot, there is little real world application in terms of actual use in
field shows or parades (especially the entire swing your arms thingy...).
:)

As a drum major, you should be sort of a junior band director. You should
be able to march (which I assume you can), and most importantly, be an
excellent musician capable of displaying a high level of skill playing
whatever instrument you play. This, more than anything, will get you the
respect you need from your band members. The complete DM is a good,
respected individual, a good player, a good marcher, and a good whistle
blower/voice projector. :) Okay, okay, simply put, you need to be an all
around bada*s. :)
