First, we are talking about a basset "clarinet" in A (a soprano A clarinet
with a low "C" extension) not a basset "horn" (which is more like an "alto"
clarinet).

At the first of the year I sold a used Buffet basset clarinet in A to a
Klarinet list member, and, to put a value on it, I checked on the price of
a new horn. They were available then by special order: The Washington
Music Center in Maryland indicated that a similar, new horn could be
ordered from Buffet for about US$3700 for it, plus tax.
