Another good reason for using a C instrument when written in C, A when
written in A and so on, is confidence. I think some people sound different
because, quite frankly, transposing on the fly is difficult to do,
particularly on the clarinet. I think this adds unwanted tension and I
think, speaking from personal experience, I don't sound as good when I have
to transpose.
