Yes, there indeed was a high A-flat clarinet. They were common in Europe,
espcially in Italian military bands. However, now they are of little use,
because there is so little music that calls for them, and it is supposed to
be exteremely hard to play.

Check out F. Geoffrey Rendall's book for more info. I think it also has a
picture of one.
