I have personally only seen these lines for the Bb soprano. Whether Malerne made
more than one line of A or Eb clarinet, e.g., I don't know. On all the Bb's I've
seen, the designation was stamped on the body as the next-to-last-line of the
logo and the "Professionals" had a line of 4 stars as the last line in the logo,
the "Intermediates" had 3 stars and the "Standards" had no stars.

AFAIK, there is no special designation on the Lintons except that plastic Lintons
indicate that they were made in Elkhart, Ind. USA while the wooden ones I've seen
indicate that they were made in USAParis. I don't know how Wichita Band knew the
Conn and Olds basses were actually made by Malerne. All I saw was their ads.

Best regards,
Jack Kissinger
St. Louis
