What makes you think academic pricing is about fairness? Academic pricing of
software is a marketing gimmick, designed to suck teachers into using a
particular product, thereby imparting their preferences to their students, who
will be more inclined to buy that product for themselves. Apple used this
technique to GREAT advantage in the 1980s.

Sibelius can't dictate prices to their distributors. That's illegal. They're
probably selling the product to their distributors for (wild guess) just over
$200, and the distributors charge whatever they can.

You paid $299 for a product which lists for $599. I don't see that you have
very much to complain about.
