Keeping time with feet... ;)

Well, once again, it's mostly a practice issue, but you might wanna try some
of the following:

1. Vocalize commands and use claps to keep people in time at first. For
example, shout out, "Mark, time, hut, lift-and, left, right, left, right,
etc. etc..." with everyone following along saying "Left, right, left, right,
etc. etc." Clap in time as you call out commands so that there will be
another source of steady rhythm.

2. Line everyone up and march around the track for a couple of miles until
everyone ends up in step or falls out from exhaustion... ;)

3. If all else fails, use a whistle. It's very degrading, but it's
effective in keeping people in step because it's such a noticeable sound to
follow!

Once again, good luck! The most important thing is to not lose patience and
make a concerted effort. Utilize peer pressure to the fullest, as well. I
started marching in parades with my middle school band in the seventh grade,
and I can still remember the painful afternoons marching around the dirt
track until no one was kicking up dirt (a sign that people are rolling on
their feet and marching properly - HINT! HINT!)... Ahh... those were the
days! :)
