A plug in someone's ear

So far we have dealt with different kind of plugs to minimize hearing
loss.
What about someone with a hearing aid?

We have had such a person, who unfortunately had lost some of his
hearing.
And this was a conductor too!

How does a conductor cope with this? This conductor was well schooled
in the Romantic works and the classics.

He had a planned method of rehearsal,
Knowing the weaknesses of orchestras, the things they wouldn't
necessarily do right, his method was, he would conduct . lets say from
the beginning to letter C. He would then stop and say: "Gentlemen, in
this and this place the music should played like this (or that). In
this place the brass were too loud etc etc."

He got excellent results this way. He corrected everything that was
liable to go wrong.
I don't think he played in an orchestra to get this deafness.

He was a real good musician. The concerts were always successful.
