The naming conventions was discussed at some length on the clarinet bulletin
board and you may want to review the material there. The biggest problem
that comes with this naming confusion is that a purchaser who is not aware
of the history of Buffet's clarinet development (and this naming
discrepancy) may purchase on of these older instruments thinking that he is
getting the polycylindrical bore design that was introduced in the 1950s.
i.e. The version the typical clarinettist means when they say Buffet R-13.
If he later comes across this information or the clarinet simply plays
differently from other (i.e. 1950s or later) R-13s, he is going to believe
that the seller cheated him when in reality the seller was simply uninformed
also.

Buffet has documented the fact that the polycylindrical bore was introduced
in the 1950s so an instrument bearing the name R-13 from before then simply
isn't what most people mean when they talk about models and model
differences.
