I'm new to the list and have been a "lurker" for a
couple of weeks. I've been playing clarinet for
almost four years now---took it up when I retired
so I'm probably older than most of you. Mostly
self taught--my interest is in pre-bebop jazz and
swing and I play by ear only. But I share with
you the desire to play with good tone and pitch.
Working on getting a good sound on the high
notes. When I ask questions of you highly trained
musicians---if they are too naive to be answered
in the general forum---please answer privately.
-------In between my daily practice sessions---I
always put my clarinet back in the case. Is it
best to close the case or let it air out?
-------I've read that improvisation was very much
a part of the classical tradition in the previous
century. To what extent do you classically trained
folks include improvisation in current music?
